Activities & Results

Spatial development requires appropriate, manageable and current information for a sound decision making – WIKIAlps delivers the tools needed. In fact, the WIKIAlps wiki, the guidelines and the recommendations are tailored to the needs of decision-makers and civil servants providing them with operative information ready-to-use for policy design in spatial development.

Activities

  • Capitalisation on results of selected projects in the fields of “Inclusive growth” and “Resource efficiency and ecosystem management” from the Alpine Space 2007-2014 programming period in order to identify not recognized synergies, remaining gaps, emerging contradictions and benefits for sustainable spatial development.
  • Setup and further development of WIKIAlps (www.wikialps.eu) providing direct access to operative information for Alpine spatial policy design seen from the project, policy and stakeholder perspective.
  • Bilateral talks in the interest of ensuring that the needs of the stakeholders regarding spatial development issues are properly identified and they are fully engaged in the project.
  • Two WIKIAlps Transnational working tables with partners, stakeholders and observers presented the opportunity to highlight transnational common issues and needs in spatial development. Place and date of the events:
    • Innsbruck (AT): 6 May 2014
    • Courmayeur (IT): 28 May 2014
  • WIKIAlps Final Conference on 4 December 2014 in Bozen/Bolzano (IT), where results have been presented and discussed with representatives of the JTS of the Alpine Convention, Permanent Secretariat of the Alpine Convention, CIPRA International, WIKIAlps project and other conference participants.

Main Project Results

The main results of the WIKIAlps project are a series of tools providing operative information around Alpine spatial development that aim at supporting stakeholders involved in Alpine spatial development during their daily work.

These tools are:

1. WIKIAlps - www.wikialps.eu

The project's wiki provides - together with an integrated database - direct access to information about Alpine spatial development seen from three different perspectives:

  • Project perspective: factsheets of captialised projects from the thematic fields “Inclusive growth” and “Resource efficiency and ecosystem management” from the Alpine Space 2007-2013 programming period.
  • Policy perspective: summary of transnational issues and needs with regard to the Alpine spatial development that have been identified on the basis of spatial policy documents.
  • Stakeholder perspective: competences matrix of stakeholder institutions.

2. Four WIKIAlps mini guides

The four mini guides on „How to…“ provide a quick overview of recent topics of interest. These short and compact guidelines are immediate tools for policy makers and civil servants on how to practically include project findings in their daily work. They are available in English, French, German, Italian and Slovenian.

  • How to use the wiki
  • How to use achievements of projects and to identify transnational needs
  • How to use the Matrix of competences
  • How to overcome national borders in a sustainable Alpine spatial development

3. Practical recommendations for stakeholders, observers, policy makers, civil servants, researchers and entrepreneurs on:

  • Methodology to analyse and understand the transferability of spatial planning project results
  • How to integrate the WIKIAlps project results in transnational spatial planning
